At our trade mark school in Harlem, we work in collaboration with families and the greater community to ensure all our scholars meet their full potential.   We are excited to build on our status as a community school.  In the 2022-23 school year, we will be partnering with LINC to streamline our literacy programs 3k- 5th grade.

Social Emotional Learning:  Education of the whole child is our priority and it begins with explicit teaching of skills focusing on self- awareness, self- management, social awareness, building relationships and good decision making to promote a positive growth mindset.  Below are our focus curriculum that guide our instruction.  We have 2 amazing counselors and a fabulous social worker and physical therapist that support this work as well individually and in small groups.

The RULER program "teaches the skills of emotional intelligence - those associated with recognizing, understanding, labeling, expressing and regulation emotion. Decades of research shows that these skills are essential to effective teaching and learning, sound decision making, physical and mental health and success in school and beyond."  We incorporate elements of the Ruler curriculum into our SEL period.

Sanford Harmony

Mornings can be hard and starting off  the day by checking in and learning how to deal with difficult emotions can set the tone and the mindset for learning.   We are excited to streamline and launch Sanford Harmony lessons this year.  Each day all scholars will  start with a morning meeting where they will feel seen and heard. They can share their feelings on a mood meter.  Each teacher builds community through read alouds, activities and games and ends with a share or closure.  But SEL learning is not just for mornings.  We infuse tools to help students self-regulate and build relationships throughout the day, everyday.
